Great video. Just did this repair to the door on my 59 Chevy Apache.
@@daveinidaho7970 Thank you!
awesome project. I wonder what this girl looks like now?
Thought this would be a vintage air installation, glad you got your E-Brake handle to clear
Going to be adding vintage air to my 55 truck so this should be a great help😀
What company did you choose for your repair panel parts. Thanks. JG
Jay, read the 2 comments and replies below yours. I answered that question there. Thanks and good luck.
Nice work. Do you know the size bolt thread that the piller hinge is
We are fixing to start on our 57. Has same issues.
Damn good job !
Can you give part numbers on the fender bracket and lower cowl filler panels... I cannot find them on their website... great viedo.. thank you
That was a long time ago. I went to their website. Lower brackets 1097za-1097zb $23.92 each. Fillers 1102ck- 1102cj $55.10 each. Good luck and thanks.
cool video (super 8 film) great year too! .my uncle used to race here about this time. Stock cars .
Love to own this one.
Yep, that's what I remember putting in new glass, rubbers, felts , in our sons 1955 Chevy pick up ! 😄
For those of you who are wondering how to take the bracket out of the door - remove the cover below the window and tip the door over to be able to grab the bracket through this opening.
I kinda like mater
Good tips in this video. Thanks.
My pap beat Jeff Lutz from street outlaws here my pap was in a black s10 he doesn't remember what Jeff drove
I bought two rubber squeegee pieces I thought went on in place of the felts. There is no way they go on there. They have to be the piecesyou pot on the bottom of the window glass on the frame that you showed at the very beginning of your video. I don't see that they will keep the water out but at least now I know I have to take the entire window out to install them. I never saw them before I got them.
clutch head screw
What diagram did you use for your measurement references?
Been almost 3 years. Anything going on?
Nice to see a truck that old still able and body in good condition. My dad bought a new green Chevrolet pickup in 1955 He drove it until late 1960 when he got a new '61 Ford with the unibody design which was a bad idea. He only drove it for three years. The doors never did fit properly.
Thanks Charlie. It's been both fun and frustrating working on it. The kids at the car shows love it. They think it's Tow Mater.
Love the way these motors reverse, I have a motor like this I should try it out on just for fun
Love your channel i got my own channel too it's called Beamer and son garage
Great video but I wish you wold have shown how you got the bracket in and out of the door. It looks too big to fit through the square hole.
The hinge pocket was removed and put back in through the large access hole near the window opening. You can see that access hole at the very beginning of the video. Thanks for watching.
Dude, you just answered my question about using an automotive tachometer to determine the RPM of a motor. Thank you so much!
Doug, I've since discovered a problem with that method. I tested another motor that I knew was 3450 rpm it showed 7000 rpm. So depending on the tachometer you are using it may not be accurate. Test a known rpm motor first. That way you'll have an accurate starting point with the tach you're using. Good luck.
Thank You! I am about to do the same thing to my 57. I imagine I will be using your video as a constant reference. Where the aftermarket piece is narrower, would you suggest spreading that before I start as opposed to using the spacer?
Hey Ruth, thanks for the subscription. I would dry fit your pillar assembly first, it may not be exactly the same as the one I installed. Personally I didn't think bending the unit was a good idea. I felt that would simply cause problems somewhere down the line. Good luck.
In the time period of this truck you would see many of them with a tractor tire (the tread part) covering their front push bumper. That's when cars had real bumpers that you could push on and not hurt them. You even used them to jack the car up to work on it. The pickup's had screw type jacks that went underneath to raise them. You could put your bumpers together and use the jack handle from positive to positive to jump a car with a dead battery if you didn't have any jumper cables.
Very nice fix. I like that you fixed the design error of too thin of material. I came to your channel from your cab repairs. I have a 1957 model 3600, and a 1956 model 4100 (the same model you robbed the 22.5 inch rims from). Those tires are pricey. And the 7x22.5 tubeless are not findable. All 7 of my tires are dry rotted. I like your method and style of repair. Seems you quit posting 2 years ago, hope your OK in this world. My 57 needs the floor pan and steps replaced. Minnesota salt was very destructive. It's been parked for the past 30 years, which enabled the engine to lock up. And that was on an overhaul in 1980 with less then 3000 miles. So much for dry storage......
25 mpb i have recently acquired my dads 1956 chevy 4100 dually with a stretched chassis ramp truck im trying to find parts like brakes and wheels any ideas please and thank you
Hello great channel, I am a new subscriber. I have a 59 Apache project underway. The original owner did on hell of a hack job on the firewall making a recess for a big block, The three inch recess affects my ability to mount vintage air under dash due to not enough space. I have a donor cab with original firewall and floor. I want to remove and replace the firewall and at least the toe board. I can share with you pictures of both cabs at present. I know there are a ton of spot welds. do you have any examples or suggestions on how I can complete this task. It seam like I would have to wire wheel the inside lip to locate the welds, drill them out., I appreciate any input you may have
Hey Gary, thanks for the subscription. First make sure you put in bracing to keep the cab from moving as you remove the firewall. The more the better. Then find all the spot welds and drill them out. Once the new one is in place clamp it all the way around before starting to weld. Double and triple check the fit before welding. When you are welding move around to prevent warping. Do a weld on the left side then the top then the right and so forth. I hope that helps and good luck. Mark
Thanks for the information
nice truck
Thanks for the video. It will help me on my 57 short bed.
Okay my 5100 is now shortened to 110 inch and i have found a stunning 1940s Mann Egerton (UK) lattice jib 3 ton twin hooker. Sorry but I have to steal that chariot back design idea and I have found a pair of new steel 20" wheel dually arches to do the job. Your truck is now my desktop background as reference material and more importantly because its so cool. You trawl RUclips for years and just, just sometimes you see something that pushes all your buttons. A big inspirational thank you from the UK. There are virtually no big bolts this side of the pond. Thanks again Mike
Tom still selling? Had no luck with the phone number.
I haven't spoken to him in awhile. He still has an Ebay account. He is hard to reach sometimes. Keep trying and good luck.
Jack McDonagh kick all their ass’s back then. B&R CAMARO
I have watched your videos for a long time and been inspired to buy a 55 5100 to convert into a wrecker, UK style. It will arrive in February. You have done an awesome job on that truck and it looks soo cool. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Mike & good luck on your new truck.
The coolest tow truck ever, I have a 55 5100 and I reckon it too needs a mast and hook. Thanks for the video.
Fun video but sound effects of a first grader! Cool video thanks!
Awesome video, helped for me to watch this before I did my 55. And yes, 2 or 3 layers of tape are needed, ask me how I know. :( Good job and thanks for taking the time to make it!
Turned out Awesome! Doing the same Install on my '59 Fleetside...Really appreciate your video's!
Your zip tie idea save me while trying to put my condenser and dryer! Thanks again!
I found this to have a lot of useful information. I recently had a lower hinge bracket replaced and mentioned that I MIGHT have the door sandblasted. The welder took it upon himself to completely disassemble the window and brought it back to me in a box. My truck is a 6400 Series. I have learned a lot from this video.
Thanks for posting! Installing same unit in my 59, your videos helped a great deal!
This guy was very good at what he did when he installed this window kit is not as easy as it looks I’ve done one it just takes time and patience and when you watch the videos he gives you an insight and that’s what you need so you don’t mess up everything that you work so hard to put together and just got it take your time and fit it in there before you tighten it all down and now the rest is good luck
Love the truck, it has given me a lot of inspiration as I work on my 59.
Michael Beattie Great to hear & good luck with your 59.
Great video step by step down to telling what size screws and glue.
